  Mary Talbot

For 25 years SDSU graduate Mary Talbot worked as a credentialed teacher instructing elementary school students all over San Diego. Along with her love of the classroom ran Mary’s passion for musical performance. She began her singing career as a young girl in her church choir while being raised listening to show tunes and opera, but especially fell in love with Jazz in college and has studied it ever since.

Today Mary is a recognized vocalist in regional San Diego and has recorded one CD, “Midwinter Night’s Dream”, which found an appreciative national and international audience. She is a student of Kevyn Lettau, a renowned jazz vocalist who frequently tours with Sergio Mendes, as well as claiming a collaborative studio experience with the highly-regarded Hollywood recording artist Amber Whitlock, producer of her first CD.

Mary’s voice is intimate and fresh with international influence, and several short samples of her talent completes today’s VOLJ interview.

Mary Talbot’s resume also includes her volunteerism at the San Diego Women’s Museum; her side career as a Jazz concerts promoter; her position as the Director of Artists in Residence at Classics for Kids, and her community service as a past president of the La Jolla Kiwanis Club.

Mary’s current focus is as Director of The SoCal Jazz Society which she established in 2012. Recognizing that Jazz Music is not always understood, Mary decided that with a few lessons in the basics, people would appreciate and enjoy Jazz, even elementary students. Listen now as she tells of her love of life and music.
