2014 marks the twentieth anniversary of GEMM.com, the first Internet marketplace that allowed buyers and sellers of any merchandise to trade on-line; pre-dating Amazon and Ebay.
55 year-old San Diego native and Internet pioneer Roger Raffee, attended Point Loma High School and then graduated from UCSD with a degree in Quantitative Economics and Decision Sciences (QEDS).
Roger moved to La Jolla in 1981 after chasing waves in Hawaii for several years. From the age of 15 the life-long surfer continued collecting vinyl records while working in restaurants and hotels until joining the Sign, Scene, and Display Decorator's Union (Local 831) in 1984.
For the next decade Raffee found himself setting up and taking down trade shows and displays at convention centers, hotels, and fairgrounds all around southern California, all-the-while building a personal record library filled with 10,000 albums.
The convention floor Journeyman co-founded GEMM.com in 1994, along with his computer wizard partner Jim Hall, in August 1994.
